Alpine's best-sounding CD receiver, the CDA-9887, includes an impressive digital sound control "tool box" — you get an incredible degree of control over the way your music sounds. The receiver produces the best possible sound from your CDs, thanks to its  premium Burr-Brown 24-bit digital-to-analog converter. You can compensate for poor speaker placement and create the perfect sweet spot in your car by using the 6-channel digital time correction feature. Then you can adjust the sonic details with an equalizer that can be switched from a regular 7-band EQ to a 5-band parametric EQ — for zeroing in on specific frequencies. Either way, you get lots of fine-tuning.

The stereo's "Imprint" technology lets you add an optional sound tuning kit (available soon) that can transform your car into the perfect listening space. The kit takes acoustic measurements of your vehicle's interior and feeds that information to the CDA-9887. The stereo then creates a sonic filter that cancels out the acoustic impact of the vehicle's interior, creating a pristine listening space. The only influence you'll hear in your music is what the artist intended.

Other top-shelf Alpine features include a BioLite™ display that renders song text with incredible clarity, a remote control, and the Full Speed iPod® connection.

very nice deck August 16, 2008
Reviewer: Dome_RBC from San Jose, CA.
This is a very high quality unit with infinite audio tuning abilities.  It allows you to choose between a 5-band or a 7-band equalizer. Setting 7-bands allows you to tune exactly what Bass frequencies or treble frequencies you want to be changed. Why be stuck changing "Bass and Treble" at a factory desired frequency when you can infinitely select any frequency in the Bass-Treble range and change that band independantly. Yes it took some time to learn the controls (more than 15 minutes after install) but I was amazed at what this deck could do after I got into it.

Excellent Head Unit July 28, 2008
Reviewer: Jonathan from Spfld, MA
Very nice head unit. Lots of features and upgradable, with usb, sat radio, hd radio, although you have to buy everything seperately. I don't think I would be happy if I didn't run the Imprint program. Not easy to tune and treble and bass are locked out unless you run the Imprint kit. Menu a little hard to navagate. Overall excellent sound.

Excellent head unit June 30, 2008
Reviewer: Tony from Lancaster, PA
This is the third Alpine head unit I have had in the last 12 years and by far the best.  The functionality and control is excellent, and unless you are planning on competing in car audio competitions, the included EQ controls, while slightly complicated, should meet most users' needs.  I went back and forth over this unit and the 9886...only downside with the 9887 is that you have to buy the IPOD cable separately and this head unit is already $399.  I have this running the factory speakers in a 2009 Forrester and it will not require an external amp, even with the windows down and moon roof open at highway speeds.  Pre-outs are great and I am running a JL 500/1 with a JL 12W3V2 in a sealed box and it sounds great.  Tech support from Crutchfield was excellent as always and the order was at my door in less than 24 hours!

Excellent reciever! June 25, 2008
Reviewer: Jeff from Indiana
I have had this reciever a few weeks and absolutely love it!  I still have factory speakers in the car and it still sounds 10 times better with this unit.  I use it mostly for listening to my ipod and love the controls for the unit.  Settings take a little getting used to but once you get used to them you can adjust just about anything you want to customize your system.  Definitely worth the money.

Two-stage faceplate & cd loading June 11, 2008
Reviewer: Me from near dc
Well Ive had this
thing for a couple
of days now,
replacing a 9813
that I absolutely
loved (go v-power),
and I have to say,
that I'd rather buy
a new 9813 than this
thing, but due to
whats out there on
the market, I've
already been through
an eclipse 7100
would only play a cd
when it felt like
it, and I'm not too
excited about
dropping $650 for
the excelon.  I
basically wanted max
sound shaping
ability and usable
on board power with
a powered sub.

Neat things are that
you can apparently
store six different
eq & time correction
pairs.  (Downside is
you have to pick
between para &
graphic eq modes)

Still working on the
USB setup.  Seems
pretty strange the
7886 has built in
usb, but it's $100
for the add on
adaptor for the 9887

Here's the serious
downside to this
unit:

Every time you
remove the face
plate or change cds
you have to flip
down the front face
plate (no motor,
damping etc.) and 1)
hit the cd eject
button, load new cd,
manually close the
faceplate 2) pull
the face plate
towards the left, to
engage the spring
loaded shaft and
pull out.  I'm
pretty confident
this will break at
some point, as I
change cds like mad,
and this seems
totally cheezy vs.
the 9813 mechanism.
 Before I set up
the crossover, any
low bass drove the
unit into distortion
QUICK.

Bottom line, I guess
$400 doesn't go as
far as it used to
with Alpine. I WILL
be talking to them
about it.
