I had purchased an ida-x001 for my son last Christmas. This was by far the best receiver that I had ever purchased used or installed. It was very simple to use and the IPod interface was great. Over the next year I needed to replace my current Alpine product the CDA-9827 with XM. I wanted to have the ability to have IPod control. After purchasing the IDA-x100 from Crutchfield and receiving the install kit and wiring kit I was able to put it in my Honda civic in less than 1 hour. I did not use the included install kit due to the grain pattern of the black plastic did not match that of my dashboard. I have also attached a KCE-350BT attached to my iphone and it works great. This is an awesome setup and I would recommend it to others. Attaching my Iphone 3G to the Ipod interface does not work although it does charge it. I use the 1/8 jack to an auxiliary input to hear my Iphone.
Doing business with Crutchfield is much easer than dealing with local stereo shops. I will in the future purchase from Crutchfield before all others. Crutchfield is a step ahead of all other with the products and support. I greatly appreciate this organization. I am also glad that they use UPS as their carrier. This carrier is very reliable and a step above others as well. They are a good match.

I am very happy with this receiver. Only small problem, the supplied cable did not work with my 4g ipod photo. This was well documented, had I done better research. Once I got the correct cable, it works very well. Very happy with performance using the ipod. Selecting songs/artists/playlist is very simple as the interface is very similar to the ipod interface. While I was waiting to get my correct cable, I used a USB thumb drive in the car. This also worked very well. I don't know why, but I love the clock. Also found a website that allows users to create custom wallpaper for the screen. Neat way to customize the unit to my car!

Just installed the Alpine iDA-X100... went to hook up my older 3rd gen. iPod and found that it didn't work (it has the latest software)! I thought, "oh well, I'll have to get a new iPod." Then I remembered that this unit will read USB storage... I verified that using a small jump drive, and it worked great. Rather than get a 4th gen. or newer iPod to use the USB connection, I got a 160gb portable harddrive. This costs 1/2 of the price of a 16 gb iPod Nano. I put a few (like 10 thousand) songs and some audiobooks on the new harddrive, and.... WA LA! I can browse / search my collection through folders, and listen to mp3s.
The unit also has amazing adjustments: speaker delay, crossover frequency, base and tweeter range, etc. It also has eq adjustment. Amazing. I just begun to make adjustments to the sound, and it already sounds better than my old Pioneer Supertuner (which, by the way had the iPod controller that drove me CRAZY... try searching by artist one button press at a time... through 200 or so artists... while driving!).
Anyway... Crutchfield sent everything I needed to install it. A little soldering (or crimping), and it installs quickly and easily.
Thanks Crutchfield...

I've rated this at three stars, as there's no option for 3-1/2.
The good: - Multi-line display makes navigation Ipod simple. - True display instead of a character-based LCD makes the text more readable. - It's clean and attractive in the dash with buttons that are actually sized for human fingertips. - Sound quality is very good overall.
The bad: - Audio adjustments are limited, particularly on a HU at this price. - There is no source volume compensation - Ipod shuffle mode involves diving for the volume knob on a regular basis. - In direct sunlight, the display is almost invisible. Alpine didn't include brightness/contrast controls for the display (except the dimmer). Many of the downloadable wallpapers are light in color - the unit has no options to use black text, and white text on a light background is even worse than the stock options. - Use of the two-position control knob is awkward while driving. - Each source (tuner, Sirius, Ipod, etc.) has its own memory for audio adjustments. It would be nice to add a couple of user-selectable presets here (top down, windows down, etc). - Full Ipod functionality is dependent on the Ipod model. The unit includes a USB cable with a short USB-to-Apple dock connector cable. Some older Ipods require the one-piece Full Speed cable instead and it's not supplied with the unit.
Overall, 3-1/2 stars is fair. Alpine did a good job, but improved visibility, brightness and contrast settings would have made this a showstopper.
