Not good for Podcasts |

I mostly listen to podcasts in the car and here is what is doesn't do (pity I found this out after installation) 1) If you select a specific podcast to listen to, once finished the unit auto replays it. If you select a podcast subscription, it plays all of the podcasts in this subscription and then auto-repeats, if you select all podcasts it plays them all then auto repeats. (This is a std function for all Alpine units according to Alpine).
2) Unlike music, you cannot skip to the end of a podcast (like you can on your ipod), you either have to stop the podcast, press pause or hold the quick skip function button down and skip through or go back to the menu and select a new podcast
3) The remote you can buy (lower cost version) does not contain any ipod functionality for podcasts and only covers the basics for music.
4) The screen is difficult to read as it only displays part of the title to whatever you are listening to. If you have many podcasts with the same title start, no way to see which one you want to listen to until the screen data starts scrolling and by then it's too late, the unit goes back to current display.
Summary, for music it's ok, for podcasts it's terrible, hence the low score. For the price, you get what you pay for I guess.

This product is decent, there are a few flaws, for example there is a horrible glare on the screen when driving in sunny conditions, navigation also isn't the fastest, and the buttons are very small (important buttons like play, pause, next track etc). But the sound quality was spectacular, the unit also works for iphones with the KCE-422i without going on airplane mode and the headunit looks very sharp.

Not like the Alpines I remember |

Well, I hadn't bought anything from Alpine in years but never owned anything else so I was expecting good things.
It sounds great and looks good. That is where the good ends. Something told me that the knob in the middle looked wrong. It is. Did anybody at Alpine actually put this unit in a car and live with it for a while? The driver cannot see the display when using this multifunction behemoth knob. The knob should be on the extreme left side just like all of Alpine's non IDA units. It is just a bad design. There is plenty of room for radio preset buttons but they chose to make you use the knob for those too. Not good. The display is not very good when searching.
Push any button on the faceplate and the whole thing moves far too much. It doesn't fit very tight although I haven't had any issues. Don't care for the red lighting. It comes with a high speed cable which is good but it doesn't come with a USB cable. Try finding a USB extension cable that is under 10 ft. long. Who wants all that extra cable stuffed in the dash?
Overall I wish I had bought another unit.

I bought this unit for it's iPod control obviously. I have an Alpine IVA-W200 with the Full Speed cable and it works great. I figured a deck designed strictly for the iPod with Apple's help would be perfect for what I needed. Wrong. The two line display is awful to figure out, unless you have things named quite short. The rotary control knob is basically useless. How hard is it to duplicate the iPod control system? This does not mimic the iPod at all, and is hardly intuitive. Well fine, most times I just throw on a playlist and shuffle. Even FINDING my playlists is not easy, and very hard while driving.
Also, my 4th generation iPod does NOT stop when you turn off the car, or switch to another source. It does in my other Alpine radio. Here however, the iPod keeps cranking through your tunes. You have to remember to push pause ( which is not down on the large center knob as it should be, but a separate button ) before turning the car off.
I also purchased a Sirius Sportster as an add on. I planned on using, and bought the add on aux. input cable. However, the iPod cable plugs in the same place so forget that plan. Now I need to hard wire through the radio antenna. Having and auxiliary input capability listed as a feature is utterly pointless when this is an iPod deck and you need to use that input. I can, for an additional $150, purchase a different Alpine add on that will allow for 2 aux inputs.
Overall I'd say this is a very disappointing attempt on Alpine's part.

I bought this deck for my girls 98 Altima, it works perfect and the install was the easiest. The deck itself is very easy to use it navigates through your Ipod very easily and sound great. I really dont have anything negative to say about the X300. And buying through crutchfield you get everything you need (dash kit, wire harness etc.) very nice item.
