I was eager to purchase this unit considering I owned the IVA-D310. The disappointment that came with my previous Eclipse unit left me craving another Alpine. The IVA-W505 is exceptional plug and play video from my I-POD was insane. Movies Music videos all at the touch of my finger tips, no other unit out there is equal to it's diversity. I don't mind that it was not originally made as a Nav unit ,considering most units that come with a Nav unit installed already ;usually suffer in deficiencies in one area or another. I would recommend the new Alpine NVE P1. It does all the Nav features you need without the blackbird problems people are listing. I recommend this unit for anyone who loves to have a plethora of options while driving , instead of limiting themselves to a lesser head unit.

This is the first multimedia double-din unit I've ever owned or had experience with. Overall, I'm very impressed with the quality and flexibility of the unit, and it's ease of use. The sound is so much better than the base Nissan stereo. Love the iPod integration, and the screen is bright, sharp, and highly visible under most lighting conditions (except direct glare from sunlight). It would really be cool if you could also change the illumination color of the buttons as you can the screen (I have my screen set to amber to match the instrument illumination in my '07 350Z), and download your own wallpaper.
There's only one gripe I have about the unit, and owners of the Nissan 350Z equipped with automatic transmissions should take note: When the gearshift is in Park, it BLOCKS the motorized door. It's not a problem if you're changing music discs while the car is in Drive, but if you have the car parked, you'll need to put the shifter in Neutral if you need to swap out CD and DVD discs.

I was skeptical about this head unit because it "does it all" but I was surprised to learn that it really does do it all, quite well. The only feature that isn't on par with other similar products is the Blackbird II GPS unit. The graphics are so-so, and quite often it doesn't know street names and can't find obvious places, such as the big box store that has been there for a few years. I love the iPod integration... it will play video from my 80GB iPod Classic and the 3rd generation iPod Nano (the square one). iPhone 3G integration is amazing... downloads all of my contacts, recent/missed calls, and the audio quality using the included mic amazes everyone that hears it. That's got to be my favorite feature!
I did an install video which includes my demonstration of bluetooth phone integration (iPhone 3G), iPod, Sirius, and a backup camera. Please check it out by going to iTunes and searching the iTunes Store for "truckblog" to download it and watch it on your iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, or computer.

Pros: 1. Navigating the menus is easy (intuitive) 2. Video is crystal clear on DVD's 3. FM radio is better than any previous Alpine I have owned. 4. Full iPod functionality. 5. Customizable screen background is great. 6. Pairs together seamlessly with Alpines H701 or H100 for ultra fine tuning.
Cons: 1. Alpine is dragging their feet on getting the accessories out. IT IS ALMOST AUGUST! 2. I would like to see a rotary volume knob on the next model. The tiny buttons are too easy to miss. 3. (2.2 Volts??) C'mon Alpine give us at least 5V outputs on the next one... 8V would even be better. Is it that much more expensive to manufacture higher voltage outputs?
IMO, this is the best Double Din on the market today. I would recommend this product to a friend.

This is a great unit for the price. Awesome resolution with video and the expansion is almost limitless. The sound is fantastic and its really easy to navigate through the menus. It has a very classy look as far as the unit goes, even when its off (eg. the glass-like black and silver surround). When using the steering wheel controls there is a bit of lag time but in all they work flawlessly. There is a few things that I think could have been done differently. One being the two volt pre-outs. Not exactly a big deal because you can upgrade to the imprint sound manager but why not go ahead and make it 4 or 5 volt out? Oh well. The dual zone feature is great as my kids in the back can watch a movie while I listen to satellite radio or something like that. The only thing that I personally don't like about this feature is that there is no way to turn it off. For example, even if there is an audio cd in the disc drive and you change the source, when you come back to the disc its on a different part. This might cause some premature wear on the laser eye or something of that nature. As far as audio controls go its pretty simple. I wish there was a little more control on the unit itself without having to upgrade to imprint.
