If you're adding amplifiers to a factory system and want the best possible sound, put the PXE-H650 System Integration Sound Processor into your system. It takes the output of your factory radio, cleans it up, and applies special Imprint sound-shaping technology, so your amps get a clean signal. You'll build a great-sounding system while keeping the look and functionality of your factory radio's dashboard setup, steering wheel controls, and factory extras.

A 512-band equalizer removes the preset EQ curve from your factory radio's output, sending a clean "flat" signal to your amplifiers through four sets of preamp outputs. High- and low-pass filters for each output channel route the right frequencies to each amp.

Imprint sound tuning technology
The PXE-H650 takes the guesswork out of system setup with the impressive automatic sound tuning feature. Connect the included microphone and place it in your preferred listening position in the vehicle. Imprint will analyze the acoustics in each listening postion, adjusting the sound so that any seat in the car can be the best seat in the house.

You can use either the PXE-H650's controls or a PC loaded with the supplied software for easy system setup and adjustment. Like to tweak it yourself? No problem — you'll find a built-in 3-band parametric equalizer, manual crossover controls, and manual time-correction controls built in as well.

Pro:It did help my setup sound allot better, but not perfect.5band param eq on my MP3,but currently not using it

Con:Outputs are too low(amps turned up till got allot of hiss).Subs distort earlier than expected. It just applies a crossover to these 2 front channels & treats it as 1 channel when it calibrates.I would have bought 1 less amp if I knew this. Also, more adjustability after the calibration, like the ability to adjust the 512 band eq

Helpful hint:Sub+/- setting affects the calibration(the bass, mid&treb dont affect calibration)Some reviews said bass was too quite, they probably had the sub+ turned up when they calibrated. The manual didnt include this info.I pressed sub- all the way down. Then pressed sub+ 4 times. Then go thru the calibration.I used the laptop for calibration, because it helps you w/line level matching of the 6 channels, also might min distortion.

Subs distort earlier than expected. To fix,set the line levels to have PXE650 subtract few db on the subs & add few db to the rest of the speakers on calibration. This might help w/background hiss, since the door amps wont need to be turn up as much
Calibration needs 4 positions.Position 1=drivers seat.Position 2=passengers seat. The other 2,you choose. The last 2 positions seem to be averaged into the overall calibration, because freq response varies,if you review the laptop logs.My sub response varied, pending on positions chosen.

Not to bad... November 6, 2007

1. The 1st and 2nd units I received were faulty. The 3rd unit is pristine. Due to all the problems I had with the 1st two units, the place from which I purchased the unit and had do the install had Alpine send a technician out to help. As I said, he found that the 2nd unit was also faulty and had the 3rd, TESTED unit sent.

2. The unit does what it's supposed to do for the most part. THE #1 BENEFIT OF THE PXE IS THAT IT SETS UP A FANTASTIC SOUNDSTAGE, THIS ALONE MAKES IT WORTH THE PRICE. However, you should be aware that you will STILL have to do a good amount of tuning on your own. In my case, the unit set the SW crossover to high and the HP to low. Also, MultiEQ didn't adequately compensate for my car's resonant frequency. In conclusion, I'm still very satisfied with it's performance because it DOES do the time correction AND it DOES do MOST of the tuning for you...for most people, the PXE will be fine, however if you're a phile like I am you might want to read on. The bass still isn't as upfront as I'd like it and the bass is not balanced properly between the cabin and the subwoofer because the manual EQ offered by the PXE doesn't provide the required flexibility. I'm convinced that if I want the bass to be right I'll have to get another EQ/processor that mounts in the trunk.....another 200 - 600 dollars for what I'm considering. Just so you know, I've got dynamat extreme all over the place.

3. The unit has EXTREMELY low level output. I have it driving Alpine PDX amps...the 150.4 for the cabin and the 600.1 for the SW. Using just the unit's output after increasing it's gain to MAX, I still had to increase gain to max on the 150.4 and the 600.1. Even with that adjustment, I couldn't reach maximum amp output from the 150.4 and the only way I could hear my sub (and I'm not exagerating) was to put my ear a few inches from it. I ended up buying a very high quality line driver. Even with the line driver at max amplification, and at full volume on the PXE, I was barely hitting 2vlts out to the 150.4 and less than 1vlt to the 600.1. Luckly these levels are sufficient to properly tune my amps although I STILL can't push the amps to MAX CLEAN output without further preamp amplification. However, I CAN properly tune amps for ultra quiet operation with more CLEAN volume than I "should" ever use (hehe). You should know that I was using the SPEAKER output of a BOSE "premium" factory system, so there was plenty of clean input to the PXE.

4. So, total cost for the PXE and the line driver was ~$600. Some might want to get the JL cleansweep (because it has 8v preout) and a good trunk EQ. However, you won't get the Time Correction with that setup. You WILL almost definitely need more output than the PXE provides and will need, in my opinion and from my experience, AT LEAST
