These speakers sound awesome. I have been trying to find speakers that sound this good forever. the bass is perfect and the highs sound crisp and not overpowering. They were a breeze to put in my 1999 bonneville. If your looking for great sound at any price these are the ones you want. You won't be dissappointed.

These speakers are very clear compared to the stock speakers in my volvo station wagon. They are very clean and tight and have a flat response. However they do not have "alot of bass" as some people have noticed. They do not really thump down at the 80-100Hz level, but they do rumble down at the 60-70Hz level, so they do have good bass response just not the punchy stuff most people want.
I left my stock speakers in the back seat because they really hit hard at the right bass frequencies but they are so muddy. These Alpines in the front finally gets me all the content of the music.
When I first powered these up they sounded really flat and yucky and I was worried, but you can tell they are clean speakers because they really respond well to EQing and once I got them dialed they sound great. Also, I only have 16WATTS per channel so I have to push them a little to sound good because they are rated much higher and are quite stiff, which is good to avoid distortion.
Summary: For the price they sound great after EQing, they don't punch like you might want but they do get down to 60Hz cleanly in my opinion. If you have low wattage you have to push them to get a better sound. They resist overdrive well if your EQing is conservative. You will probably not enjoy these unless you have some other speakers punching at 80-120Hz in the system, like a sub or somthing, but they get the full range of High frequencies.

Not the alpine quality speakers I expected |

I was satisfied with Alpine SPS-17CS 6.5 speakers on my previous car. I gave these a try for my 2007 Honda Civic. The volume is way too low, I'm not even talking about bass, just the overall volume. I've returned these and got Blaupunkt GTc652 components which are much better speakers. If you can mount bigger speakers on your car, do so, small speakers are far more inferior to bigger speakers. Maybe I got a defect set, but I would still look at other speakers here on CF. A lot of good selections out there, be patient and look around. Make sure you read the product reviews too. I learned a lot of things reading the reviews.

I have a JVC KD HDR1 receiver which I bought from Crutchfield and at the time of purchase I also bought some 6x8 aftermarket speakers. I have a Ford Focus ST with factory subwoofer. I had always had problems with heavy bass (even with sub turned down). My front left Pioneer 3-way went out and I replaced them with these Alpine 2-way 5 1/4". Oh my gosh; I now hear the highs and mids that I have been missing since the first day I installed the JVC receiver. I had my doubts at first because the speakers were smaller and only 2-way but they came with adapter brackets which made installation a breeze. I highly recommend these speakers; especially for the front doors.

I initially purchased two for the front doors and I liked them so much I purchased two more for the rear. The improvement in the sound with just replacing the speakers surprised me! Very clear highs, but not brassy. The bass for this size was impressive. Tight, not boomy. But don't expect subwoofer-type bass though. They are only 5 & 1/4".
