Some issues concerning turning on this unit !!!! |

I purchased this unit in June of 2007 for my sister's new 2007 Nissan Xterra S with the factory radio. At the same time, I purchased an FM modulator and installed the two units together. At first, things were going well . . . no problems to speak of. Then, the hot summer months came and we began seeing a problem with the unit powering on. The problem occurs when you hit the power button and the unit begins to boot up. It seems to "get stuck" on the opening screen and never actually goes to any channel. The FM modulator is working as you can hear it turn on and clear the channel we have the unit set to. Sometimes, if you remove the Xpress from it's cradle, wait a few seconds, and reinstall it onto the cradle, it'll boot up just fine. Other times, doing this has no effect. As mentioned, this problem manifested itself when the heat of the summer came around, but, now that it's cooled off the problem is still there! I've had a similar problem with the Delphi Skifi II in another vehicle. At this point, I'm seriously considering moving my sister to a Delphi Roady XT as I have installed many of these in friend's vehicles and they seem to be having zero problems as outlined here.
Just something to ponder before making a satellite radio purchase . . . . .

Installation was a breeze and almost no problems. As with any car audio add-on component, I avoided the FM modulator and connected through an auxilary input. With this connection, I have excellent sound quality and no problems. My only complaint is with the remote. The buttons are so close together on such a small surface that hitting multiple buttons causing errors happens frequently. But this is a problem with most car audio remotes. Programming and understanding all the features was slightly complicated, but with patience and a small amount of time all was fine. For the money, I am pleased with the service.

Very disppointed in the sound quality from this unit. I could only get sound through my right side speakers using the FM Modulator with Sure Connect and it was terrible. Even using the cassette adapter was not any better. Crutchfield sent out a second unit and I had the same poor quality of sound. I switched back to my Sirius unit and the sound was crystal clear through all speakers.

The radio worked fine, but I found that the sound quality, through the FM modulator with direct connect was more like AM (highly companded). I'm going to try direct audio connect, but the Delphi radio my friend loaned me had much better sound through the FM modulator, you may want to go that route if you want a direct connect solution.
