Just moved into a DT loft, had old set of Bose speakers but needed something more updated and designer fresh. What can I say, I am a gal! I am a Bose product fan and Crutchfield helped me to obtain what I desired in the best means, economically affordable.
I am very pleased and will continue to hunt the halls of Crutchfield to further expand and improve my Bose system. They rock!

I got these to replace my TV speakers and like others have mentioned, these have a noce wide dispersion but are not good as primary speakers due to their inability to handle bass. They also require a more powerful amplifier to drive and TVs are not good!
The wide dispersion make them perfect as surround speakers. In fact, that is how I am using them and are remarkably good at their price.

I LIKE THESE SPEAKERS VERY MUCH. FOR THE PRICE, THEY ARE A BARGAIN. I USE THEM AS MY REAR SURROUND SPEAKERS. THEY ARE PAIRED WITH MY BOSE 201 FRONT SPEAKERS. THE TWO SETS OF SPEAKERS ARE PERFECTLY MATCHED. I WOULD RECCOMEND THESE SPEAKERS AND ANY BOSE SPEAKERS TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN GOOD SOUND.

I have looked at and have listen to the Bose 161 Surround speakers. I use 3 pair. (Front L/R)(Surround L/R)(Rear L/R). These speakers alone have a pleasing sound but are not design to produce Bass compaired to a powered or non-powered sub. I was able to listen to the 161 at a local store. The 161 required a bit more input/volume compaired to other displays. But I've owned Bose products for years and have never been disapointed with there look an most importantly Sound. Match the 161 with a powered sub and you'll never have any regrets.

I purchased a pair of the Bose 161 speakers to use as extension speakers in a small dining room. They are connected to a Techniques 75 WPC receiver using 16 Ga wire.
While the highs and midranges are fine, the bass is very disappointing and barely there. When I contacted Bose to recommend a woofer or unpowered subwoofer they told me that they do not sell such products. I wished that your specs had listed the speaker range in CPS that may have helped me make a better decision.
