This player so far has exceeded my expectations. I am amazed and delighted at the superb picture quality and build quality of this unit.
Like many, I have a large number of standard DVDs and most of the content that I like to watch is unlikely to be available in HDDVD or BluRay in the near future.
I do believe that this unit is better than the flagship Denon 5910ci because it plays by Xvid/Divx and also +R, -R, and -RW, +RW, and PAL format discs. I have not put a disc in this machine that has not played flawlessly. No skipping, jerking, or stuttering from recordable media. This was a must-have feature for me.
I use my Denon primarly with 480p on my commercial ED plasma from Panasonic. I have observed no macroblocking or CUE error with this unit in either component analog or HDMI. Most of my friends think my ED plasma is HDTV because it looks better than many HDTVs I've seen at the store.
I tested the upconversion on a 32" LCD HDTV, however, and the image quality was equal or not better than HDTV broadcasts in "true" 720p and 1080i.
Although I am not an audiophile, I was also quite impresed with the audio output and I could instantly hear a difference between the Denon and my other DVD player.
This was my first order from Crutchfield, and I am extremely satistied. My order shipped within minutes of my order, was double boxed for extra shipping protection, and arrived faster than I expected.
