This is hilarious ... I purchased this remote a year ago and I just came here to write a review. When I was reading Robert's review, I had a surreal moment and wondered if I'd been her before and already reviewed this device! LOL, I had not, but apparently Robert had same experience.
Some Highlights of my Experience:
* My first firmware update, remote got stuck in the same loop, was replaced. * Remote software will not run on Vista. * I got the software to work, but found the device database stale. I had to manually program my TV STB (Comcast) and my DivX Connected Receiver. * "how to use" the software? Well good luck figuring it out, there is no instructions. * I have the Denon RC-7001RCI base station because I wanted "2 way communication" with the receiver. Well it works SOMETIMES. But is generally flakey and useless. * The remote frequently displays "out of range" when I'm sitting on my couch 10 feet in front of the base station. * Don't bother calling Denon on this one. They hardly even know they sell remotes, let alone how to use them. * I'M SENDING BACK MY SECOND ONE TODAY! That's why I'm currently on this web site. After about 10 months of use, my second remote from Curtchfield decided to die. It just lights up and won't boot.
Grrrrrr. I'm so married to this remote at this point I have no other choice than to grin and bear it.
My advise: Run. Buy something else.

On my first try with this remote, upon updating the firmware, the remote got stuck in a loop and kept flashing on and off. So it went back and Crutchfield sent another. On the second try, I found that the software insnt compatible with Vista. So I lugged my PC with XP downstairs, instead of using my laptop with Vista, and started setup. Instructions are useless, long wait for customer service with Denon, setting up multiple DVD players impossible, Their own recivers dont work well with this remote, etc. At least the Denon 4308ci reciever I bought is worth it. This remote is the worst. Crutchfield rocks! I sent this back to them and am waiting for the Harmony 890, with the Rf, for half the cost. By the way, the database for the Denon remote couldnt find a Sharp bd-hp20u Blue Ray player or a comcast motorola dch3200 high def box.
