Garmin brings together precision guidance and useful features in the nüvi 660. This compact navigator boasts a crystalline 4.3" widescreen with a bright, color display that provides more information than smaller navigators. Use the touchscreen to enter your destination and follow along as your route is mapped in rich detail. You can mount this lightweight unit on your dash or to your windshield, and still see plenty of road ahead.

Find your way
The nüvi 660 comes with detailed maps of the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, and you can choose from nearly six million provided points of interest. Use 2-D or 3-D map mode for guidance, and you'll get voice prompts that speak most street names for easier navigation. You'll drive with more certainty when you hear "turn left at the next intersection, Central Avenue," instead of just "take the next left."

Still manage to miss a turn? Garmin's got you covered with fast automatic rerouting to get you back on the right road. With the nüvi 660's powerful satellite receiver, you'll be constantly informed of where you are, even in the most remote areas. Add your own favorite points of interest and customizable vehicle icons to further enhance your journey.

Talk freely with Bluetooth
Thanks to the included microphone and speaker, you can use your nüvi 660 with a Bluetooth enabled cell phone to make and receive calls without taking your hands off the wheel. Stow the phone in the glove compartment or your bag, and you'll still be able to access its address book and call history. With the nüvi 660, you can find a route to a hotel in a city across the state and call ahead for reservations in mere moments.

Stay away from the traffic pack
Wouldn't it be great to see how traffic is shaping up along your route, then get around jams developing in an unfamiliar area? The nüvi 660 comes with a FM-TMC traffic receiver which will alert you to traffic situations and road construction ahead of you. You can view the traffic problems on the screen and find the best way around them. Traffic-information service requires yearly subscription fees — you get a free three-month subscription when you purchase the nüvi 660. Traffic information is available in select metropolitan areas only.*

Get more from your navigator
Listen to your favorite tunes with the nüvi 660's MP3 player. Upload songs from your computer via the included USB cable, or by filling a Secure Digital™ (SD) memory card with digital tracks and loading through the nüvi's SD card slot. The headphone jack accommodates personal listening, and the wireless FM transmitter will broadcast your MP3s, audio books, or navigation voice prompts through your car's stereo.

The nüvi 660 gives you more fun and practical features. Use the JPEG picture viewer to view those digital vacation shots on a nice wide screen. A currency converter and world clock come in handy for international travel, plus you can download travel guides for major destinations around the globe from Garmin. If you choose, you can enable Garmin Lock™ anti-theft protection which keeps others from using your nüvi 660 without password access to its main functions.

The nüvi 660 comes with an SD card from Garmin pre-loaded with Fodor's Travel Guide North America. This handy tool gives you additional information for restaurants and hotels across the continent, including a search function which allows you to find a destination based on rating. Fodor's gives you thorough reviews and recommendations for shopping, nightlife, sporting events and tourist attractions.

GREAT GPS June 27, 2008
Reviewer: PATRICK from MIDDLE ISLAND, NY
Just love it. My son plays travel hockey, so we're always going somewhere new. This beats trying to read directions on the fly (and in the dark).
1) It can store and play back MP3's from memory and from an SD card.  You can play them back through the wireless FM adapter along with the directions, listen through the unit's speaker or use earpiece adapter to listen or plug in elsewere. The FM wireless connection works pretty good. The sound quality is OK (Nothing to write home about). Garmin has additional stuff on their website that you can download. Updates for maps, firmware and different display vehicles (they even have some holiday ones).
2) The Bluetooth for the phone works great. as does everything else about it.
If I needed another one I would buy this one again.

I love This GPS August 19, 2007
Reviewer: Vaughn from Newnan, GA
I would like to start of by saying I gave this unit 5 stars because I could not give it 6 or 7

I was not interested in buying a GPS unit until my wife and I decided to go back to our old college town after 10 years and I reallized I had no clue where anything was anymore.

So I started researching GPS units and came across this one. I liked the fact that it was bluetooth capable and had an MP3 player with a built in speaker. Since I had never had a GPS before I was not sure just what I needed but this ended up being a great buy.

I was able to program all of the POIs I needed into my favorites very easily and have been using it for everywhere I go now.

I bought this unit in Oct of 2006 and have not had a problem. I have not even read the instruction manual yet as it is that simple to use. It is very user friendly and even my wife (who is not very good when it comes to using electronics) loves it. We find ourselves going to check out new restauraunts and doing more around town because we know we will not get lost anymore or have a hard time finding where we want to go.

I just recently purchaced the 2008 maps for the unit from Garmin and it is working just fine.

Almost ideal: July 16, 2007
Reviewer: Rick from Louisiana
The nüvi 660 has almost everything it needs for a perfect score, but its lacks are annoying.

Pluses: great visibility in bright light; readily understood but not intrusive voice guidance; enormous amount of information on your trip (the maximum speed feature can be frightening: accurate to 0.1 mph!); quick redraw; great databases of streets and POIs.

Minuses: a miserly ONE waypoint capability; virtually incomprehensible documentation; difficulty in managing POI databases (I can never figure out how to add one); a FODOR guide that, as far as I can tell, is useless (it shows nothing less than 1500 miles from my home!); and as someone else has mentioned, a host of options that id doesn't need, as far as I'm concerned.

As far as I'm concerned, Garmin could delete: Fodor; the traffic receiver; the MP3 feature; the calculator and currency converter; and probably the Bluetooth functionality. Doing so would save me money!

The "beanbag" mount is essential, though it doesn't work very well on a steep dash: it allows a passenger to make adjustments and just play.

Having said all that, there's no question whether I'd buy it again: I would, simply because what it does it does very well. For advance planning, though, I'll continue to use my laptop with Street Atlas 2007 Plus.

Little more moneu for a great GPS May 22, 2007
Reviewer: John from Blacksburg, VA
I originally started looking at GPS units for my upcoming move to a different state.  I decided to go with Garmin since they have been in the market for a long time, and I wanted someone with some history in the market. After alot of research I decided to go with a nuvi since it is more portable and can easily be taken out of the car for security, and travel reasons.  If you are in a city and will be walking you can mark where you parked you car, walk for a while and then have the 660 give you directions that are direct and not just what you remembered.  The MP3 funtion is very nice additional feature as well.  I have 4 SD cards and change them out to listen to diferent types of music.  It does very well in rural and urban areas and hasn't let me down yet.  The mounting system has worked very well for me, with no problems.

Quality Product April 30, 2007
Reviewer: Mark from Buffalo Grove, IL
A great product!  The touch-screen controls are intuitive.  The navigation instructions are accurate to within a few meters. If you mount the unit close enough to your car's radio and keep it plugged in to your lighter socket via the power cord, the wireless FM transmitter provides clear sound for MP3s that you can save directly to the unit or to an optional SD memory card (one is included).  Most of the features are customizable.  The only problem I had was with the dashboard mounting disk; the adhesive was not nearly strong enough to hold the unit in place.
