JBL's GTO Series speakers will provide the best possible performance where it matters most — in your car.

The special design of the GTO527 5-1/4" speakers extracts maximum power from your car stereo or outboard amplifier for increased sound levels. The woofer cone boasts more surface area than similarly-sized speakers, further improving efficiency and increasing bass production. The woofer's design ensures tight, powerful output from mounting areas like door panels and package shelves.

The GTO527 features the My-Ti™ tweeter, which blends mylar and titanium to broadcast smooth, well-controlled high frequencies. The speaker sports integrated high- and low-pass filters and a level control that allows you to tune the tweeter's output to your specific vehicle and listening taste. To improve imaging, you can aim the tweeter for the best possible stereo "sweet spot."

Perfect fit! October 13, 2008
Reviewer: Paul from Ames, IA
I "settled" for these speakers because the options for the doors of my '97 Mercury Grand Marquis were limited and so was my budget.  I'm normally a stickler for good speakers and believe strongly in buying from companies that engineer sound in the US.

Thinking I might be old fashioned, I listened to the Poineer, Kenwood, Sony, etc. options for this application.  Their speakers only confirmed my thoughts.

Anyway, the Grand Marquis is a great install.  I used the JBL's in the doors, a set of Infinity 692.7i 6x9s in the deck (along with a set of smaller Polk Audio speakers, mainly to help balance the load to the amp).  I'm driving this set of speakers with a Sony amp putting out 65 watts into the 2 ohm load.  Then, I've got Polk's dual 12" box in the trunk driven by Sony's new class D 900 watt RMS into 2 ohm amp and a 1.2 fared cap.  Oh, yeah, there's a really flexible Pioneer DEH-M3900P head unit in the dash, too.

The sound is unbelievable.  From quiet, flute oriented mid-'90s Jethro Tull and Johnny Winter to Metallica and Ozzy's new Black Rain, these speakers put out clean, clear, well balanced sound at any volume level that can be tolerated by humans.

At low volumes, the JBL's are clear and well balanced and they hold their own at high volumes, as well.  No sign of strain and they do not get lost in the mix.

I am once agin impressed by JBL.  Well worth the money, install was a breeze!

Great Speakers for the Price August 9, 2008
Reviewer: Jeremy from St Charles, MO
Overall, I'm very impressed with these coaxials.  Out of the box it was clear these are targeted toward the middle price point.  No top of the line materials here.

Both the driver and tweeter have built in crossovers.  The tweeter has an adjustable +3db/+0db setting, which I'm not sure would ever get used, as coaxial tweeters are generally plenty loud enough.  The suspension is quite stiff, though even for low power applications in free air (as most car installs will be) they should be sufficient.  With these at 2 ohms I noticed little additional volume over the stock 4 ohm speakers.  No decent bass will ever make its way out of these small cones, but the mid-bass is present and clear.

The tweeters have just enough brightness and clarity without being excessive or "tinny", very well balanced.  They may be crossed over a little higher than I'd like, as there's not enough of the lower frequency foundation for a tweeter, but perhaps it's just to small, which is easy to see why in a 5 1/4" package.

Overall a very pleasant sounding coaxial.  Sound quality and clarity is just miles above anything you'll find in a stock setup.  I use these in the rear doors with a stock Nissan head unit, likely pushing 12~15w RMS per channel.  This still speak out loud and clear even with 2 12" subs taking care of the lows.  Highly recommended!

best 5.25's ive heard February 9, 2008
Reviewer: mustangiifrk from shelton, wa
i just bought a pair of these to match with my '93 concorde. im going to start this off with im pretty big on loud music. i had the infinity system but blew that so i opted for these. ive heard from the grapevine that jbl is known for their volume. simply put, these are the best ive heard so far for 5.25's. some ppl say on here they sound bad, but its a must to tune these with your head unit; im running the 60wx4 alpine cda-7873. running about 25rms per speaker, they are more than adequate. bass is definately there, solid and not muddy, like i said you have to tune each frequency band. highs are good, almost ever so slightly harsh, but you can adjust that. im running the treble on 4/7 and its more than fine for my hip hop taste. these are a definite buy, and LOUD too, im going to buy an amp pretty soon to run them even louder, and i cant imagine what that will sound like :0

No Bottom End May 12, 2007
Reviewer: Bryan from NJ
If you're looking for any sort of low end response, these aren't what you want.  I put these in the roll bar of my Wrangler that has the four speaker system (no sub).  These speakers have absolutely no bottom end.  The base, which was produced by the factory speakers, was lost with these.  I believe that the frequency response on these only goes to 70, so you might expect that.  I wasn't looking for a ton of base, but I certainly didn't want to wind up with less than the factory speaker put out.  I immediately removed the speakers and returned them.

no complaints here November 2, 2006
Reviewer: Rick from chicago, il.
i own a 2006 jeep wrangler with the 7 speaker upgrade, and i purchaced these for the roll bar location. they made a tremendous difference. between the 2 ohm load and the higher efficiency, they raised the factory volume level about 20%. they sound far better than the factory drivers, and fit behind the factory grills (not all speakers that "fit" do that). The sales adviser was a big help pointed me to the select few speakers that not only fit but that fit behind the grill to maintian a conplete stealth install for a convertable that is important. Based on price i'd give these 5 stars, but over all i can''t bring myself to do that because so many speakers will sound better provided you spend a bit more. they just didn't fit for me. like the Polk momo's to me those are a 5 star speakers, but not the best choice for me... With that said if you own a wrangle soft top.. Buy these speakers.
