Description Features Crutchfield Hands-on Research Accessories

Kenwood's KDC-138 CD receiver includes a front-panel auxiliary input with a handy feature that isn't usually found on lower-priced receivers. You can adjust the input's level so you won't get drastic changes in volume when you switch to or from the auxiliary source. This user-friendly Kenwood also features a 5-function toggle switch on the right side of the faceplate that makes it easy to adjust your settings on the go.

The stereo's built-in amplifier offers plenty of power, and you can shape the sound with a 3-band equalizer and six preset tone curves. If you're adding a subwoofer, the set of preamp outputs include a low-pass filter and level adjustment to keep the signal clean for great-sounding bass.

Simple and straightforward September 11, 2008

I purchased this unit for my '83 Mercedes Benz 300SD which had an old aftermarket unit withouth the fascia. I wanted something simple but with good sound, and it fit the bill just right. The installation was SO simple, I was done and blasting my music within an hour. My speakers are stock at the moment so I don't really know the unit's capabilities at their fullest, but even with 25-year old stock speakers, this unit managed to make them sound pretty good. It's a great option if you're looking for something unexpensive but with a more-than-decent output.

Great...except August 4, 2008

This is a very nice little head unit.  I bought one to rock my 1984 Chevy dump truck.  The only gripe I have with the unit -- and it's the same way with another Kenwood CD receiver I have -- is that you go into audio adjustment mode if you accidentally push the 'volume' knob, however lightly.  Bit of a pain sometimes, but otherwise the receiver is full-featured and quite powerful.

It might be worth moving up to a model with a remote so you don't have to physically touch the receiver to operate the controls.  Other than that, I'm satisfied.

Nice radio, good features. Works great with i pods and portable satellite radio. Price of radio vs. features is what I was looking for.

Great for iPods May 27, 2008
Reviewer: Megan from Damascus, MD
I bought this so that I could plug in my new iPod Touch while still being able to use the controls on the iPod itself. This is a no frills stereo, and I love it. It stays on the auxiliary setting and I do all the fun stuff on the iPod. Removable face means it won't get stolen when I park it in the garage at work. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to use their iPod in their car as God intended: with you controlling the buttons.
