Well this sub was my first foray into non HT in a box subwoofers and I thought I was going to be blown away and at first I thought I was. I lived in a small apartment at the time and wasn't even able to turn it up enough to truly enjoy it. When I moved into my house the and tried to turn my sub up it just couldnt keep up with a large living room. If your space is over 2500 ft ^3 then you should spend a little more money and get a bigger sub. I doubt even then 600 would be enough. I would say its a great small room sub or apartment sub because it can add that little rumble and its got a good sound. Plus this sub only goes down to 30hz. A lot of movie explosions can register around 20hz or below. I realized that I wanted my extension to get down near 15hz and I am glad I upgraded. It costs a little more money but if your serious about your bass its worth it!!!

Very Disappointing for a Polk Product |

My old Polk subwoofer broke after 8 faithful years of service, so I called Crutchfield to replace it. I purchased the DSW PRO 500 as a staff recommendation. My entire 5.1 speaker system is Polk Audio, so I couldn't wait to get my new Polk subwoofer. However, I was immediately and extremely disappointed with this product. First and most importantly was the poor sound quality. My interests are mainly music audio, with movie special effects the secondary priority. The main advantage of this sub - it has house rocking power. Movie LFE output was huge. But, the sound quality for music was poor at best. The sub bottoms out easily and buzzes and hums, and the sub lacks definition bordering on distortion, especially at its upper ranges. I just couldn't live with it.
Also, I was disappointed by the incredibly poor design engineering. This is a down-firing sub, period. The conversion to front-firing is so poorly designed that it is not usable. When converted to front-firing, the control panel lays on the floor (imagine trying to make even a small control adjustment) and the power cord is forced into the carpet so much that the sub will not sit level. Finally, a grille cover is not included. If you want to use it as front-firing, you have to send in more money plus shipping to get a grille!
I returned this unit and selected a different subwoofer. Crutchfield stands behind their customer service policy and is exactly why I get my electronic toys from them.

I was saddened by my old subwoofer dying on me, but I guess I can't complain about 12 years good service. I chose the Crutchfield staff pick and after setting it up, watched "Blade Runner" in BluRay. Incredible! I would have never guessed a box that size could put out that much sound, and clean sound at that. I'm happy.

I wanted the right subwoofer to compliment my TC65i front speakers, TC80i rear speakers and LCi Center speaker and this thing is awesome! I was blown away when I compared it to the sub that I had with my RM6800 speaker set. Although pricey, this is a well worth investment. Don't cut corners on your speakers, spend the money up front and they will reward for years to come!

I first tried Polk's PSW 110 to go with my new RTi10 Towers and was a little disappointed. As a replacement to my old subwoofer, I felt the sound of the 110 was a bit soft and boomy, and didn't integrate well with the towers. It was fine for the price, but I wanted to be blown away. I was a little hesitant to try the DSW line, fearing it wouldn't be enough of an improvement. Since Crutchfield pays for return shipping I figured it was easy to take a chance and made the switch. Fortunately, I could notice the improvement right away. The bass of the DSW Pro 500 is much cleaner and smoother and blends quite nicely with the rest of the speakers. It has plenty of power for me and is only turned up half way. While not totally necessary, I do like the addition of a remote to fine tune the sound while listening.
