Not a bad option for rooms where a standard 5.1 se |

I bought this soundbar speaker for my basement TV viewing room. I already had a primary home theater room upstairs in my living room and wanted a scaled-down version in my basement as I didn't have the room or the budget for another complete 5.1 system. The Polk soundbar is a reasonable alternative. The sound is pretty good altough not as good as a true 5.1 system. You just don't get the separation or feeling of spaciousness. The setup is very easy (it comes with a color-coded wire harness that even a young child can figure out). Some recommendations I would make if you intend to purchase this: (1) buy a subwoofer to go along with it for the deep lows (2) buy a receiver that is strong enough to push the soundbar (3) follow Polk's recommended setup initially for all wiring and sound settings and then tweak them according to the acoustics in your room and the speaker placement.

I recently tested the Polk Audio SurroundBar and was thorougly disappointed. After doing a bunch of research, I figured the speaker would be a perfect all-in-one match underneath my 42" Plasma display. After hooking it up, my wife exclaimed "ARGH - that thing sounds like *$^#". We both agreed that it didn't sound much better than std TV speakers. Sound produced was very flat and not spatial as I expected. Too many speakers in such a small area...and just not enough box to handle the acoustics properly.
Consider using three (3) seperate front and center channel speakers for your surround system.

I agree this will not take the place of a true 5.1 Home Theater, but if space and running wires around the room is not your thing this is a great alternitive. I bought this on 2-14-07 and have watched several DVD's and music DVD's and I must say this thing ROCK's. My system is a Panasonic Plazma, Onkyo Reciever, Sony DVD and Polk 450 SUB. Thanks POLK AUDIO!

I expected the sound to be very good, BUT IT REALLY IS OUTSTANDING. I have a 120W A/R SubWoofer via a JVC 120W Dolby Receiver thru a Sony 50" HDTV. No Matter what source; DVD, Game, HD or Standard T/V, The Sound Is Just Perfect. Installation was a snap with the easy instructions and labeled cable supplied from Polk. I have the receiver on a T/V Input, making the suggested adjustments to the Surround Bar "on screen" which are more accurate and really easy.
IMPORTANT TIP; REMEMBER TO tAKE yOUR SUBWOOFER OFF THE "AUTO" SETTING, or it will Feedback to your receiver and cut off the signal!!!
