A wonderful system. Better sound than I anticipated. Great features too. I agree that the instructions could and should be clearer especially in regards to the speaker assembly. I didn't have an issue with it but I can see where it could be confusing. The manual could also be indexed better so finding answers to questions that come up (like adding extra components) could be accessed quicker. As far as the system, if you cannot establish a constantly clear "line of sight" between the IR transmitter and the receiver built into the left rear speaker you will need to hard wire the rear speakers. It would have probably been better if they used an RF hook-up. DVD's load slowly but not too big of a problem. All proved to be extremely minor issues. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this system again. I debated between 4 or 5 stars but the system is worth 5 even with the minor issues.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the Sony system. Especially for the value, it has all the features I was looking for. I like the "theatre in a box" deal with the DVD player and AM/FM radio. It has plenty of connections which is really a plus when hooking up to your cable, TV, VCR, and other. The sound quality is really good, though I haven't manually configured the rear speakers to get fuller sound. Most of the power is focused on the center and then front speakers. Setting up was a little challenging as others have indicated, not difficult, just cumbersome, and the instructions were not as clear as they should be. The wires are all color coded, so hookup is real easy once the speakers are constructed. Some people have complained that the surround speakers are not wireless - they are wireless in terms of not running wires across the room, under the carpet or through the ceiling. They need to be wired to each other, but I hid them under the sofa behind me, so no big deal. The infrared connection with the receiver works perfectly unless you stand in front of the signal. Bottom line, I did a lot of research, this had all the features at the best price, and it delivers! I'm real happy with the system, and I highly recommend it!

The manual for putting the speaker system together was not the greatest, however the system once everything is hooked up is very good, the reason for my rating of 4 vs. 5 was based on the manual from Sony, it did not have alot of detail when putting the speaker stands w/ the speakers, everything else was pretty easy to hook up. Sound quality is exceptional, you have four different types of Movie sound quality based on the type of movie, action, comedy, sports, etc... Saving Private Ryan is exceptional, you can hear bombs dropping all over the place, King Kong was great. For the price range I don't think you will disapointed. Room size 10' x 30'

This is my first HTIB system I've had. Easier to hook up since Sony uses color code on the wires and on the connectors. I agree with the other reviews that the installation manual could have be written better. Sony left out a few diagrams and desciptions that would have aided in the building the towers.
I like the resume from last play feature and that the unit has an auto off feature. The sound is pretty good and the wireless speakers work well.
Reason I did not give it a 5.... The remote/interface is more complex than it should be. And the display on the unit is very small when comes to reading the current setting the unit is set to. It would have been nice to have a clock display on it as well.

This is the first home theater system I've had. There may be others that are better, but this one was real easy to hook up, although the writing in the instructions could be better.
Sound is awesome! My son was home for the Holidays, and helped hook things up. He's a gamer, and the system really stepped up to the plate for games.
I was concerned about the IR unit for the surround speakers. But it seems to work flawlessly.
