The 1080p upscaling 5-DVD changer from Sony is certainly an exceptional value.
*Pros: 1) Superb picture quality, comparable to PS3 upscaling which I was using before purchasing this for disc changing convenience. The PS3 is slightly better but thats a $600 machine with a freakin cell-processor and vast array of other high-end computing resources. PS3 also produces blu-ray image quality FAR superior than the best stand-alone blu-ray players. The high-end PS3 is an unfair comparision to any stand-alone device!!! The DVP-NC800H comes darn close to PS3 image quality and thats quite an outstanding achievement!
2) Value: I looked at Denon and other high-end AV makers before deciding on the DVP-NC800H. Many of the competition was only 1080i and much higher priced! The DVP-NC800H is **unusually** low-priced for a Sony product which does NOT compromise.
*Cons: 1) The user-interface is low-def cartoonish and again unusual for a Sony product. With most of Sony products using the excellent XMB interface, I dont understand why the DVP-NC800H gets a cartoon as user interface.
2) Slow to switch on: for some reason, there is a 2 second lag between pressing power button on the remote and DVP-NC800H actually turning on.
*Thoughts: Other reviewer mentioned slow disc changing. I have to strongly disagree with that. It does a fine job at changing discs and in a reasonable time.
Overall, I am very pleased with the DVP-NC800H and would highly recommend it!

Excellent, but minor cosmetic flaws |

I bought this player to go along with my new 1080p DLP TV. It replaces the Sony NC655P 5-Disc Player since 2002. That model was feature-rich and provided excellent 480p picture quality. I know Sony wants a lower price-point, but it is too bad they really cut corners to lower the price. The 655P had many more functions on the unit itself, illuminated disc buttons, and a much more informative display panel. Do a google image search for DVP-NC655P and you will see the difference.
For $129, you get a bare-bones 5 disc changer that does provide excellent video quality at 1080p upscaling. I haven't done any picture comparisons between 480p and 1080p, but the picture quality is top-notch. Sony players have always had the best video quality, and that is what you want in a DVD player.
Now for the minor cosmetic flaw. Take a look at the photo and look where Sony put the remote sensor. They moved it from the main display panel to the bottom right corner. If your player is in an audio cabinet with glass doors with wood trim, the wood trim might block the sensor! I had to push the player back as far as possible and against the left side of my cabinet, and thankfully, my remote controls the player from across the room! I almost had to move the player out of the cabinet to make it work with the remote.
Now if only Sony made a 5-Disc Blu-Ray Player....
