Well...first of all better picture quality on most discs that I've tried so far. Near HD quality to me. But some DVD's seem to have slight affects by the HDMI upconversion. But only some.
I like the sleek design and switchable resolution. I also like the HDMI indicator light for some reason. Many other different picture and sound options too. Haven't had it to long, but it's selling out time after time. So if your thinking about it...don't wait. Pick one up(with a HDMI cable), and you won't regret it. Many great reviews. And its sony too! Great for price.

After buying, and them breaking, several dvd players in the past. We decided to get one to go with our Pioneer 50" plasma. Truly amazing difference and the unit has some great features. I like the subtitle button. Be sure to use a HDMI cable it made a significant difference especially in the blacks. Buy with confidence and of course from Crutchfield.

Bottom line: Buy (at least) one.
This does and will continue to do a rockin' job as the 'primary' DVD player until The Format War is over.
Don't let the low price cause you to be skeptical.
I am 39 and I will still use these words: It is killer.
It weighs about nothing, as does the remote.
I have a 65" Toshiba and a pretty smokin' audio set up w lots of speakers.
It beats the brains out of its 2 predecessors. - which were both JVCs. This is actually the first Sony item that I have ever purchased. The two JVCs still work. This one just gives them a beatin'.
I have not discerned any difference on the audio side. It is very good and certainly not any worse than the JVCs.
The video is where it earns all of the stars.
The first DVD I tested told the tale: The Matrix. Blacks and other real dark stuff are perfect. The resolution is awesome. Two neighbors have come over to see it. One of them went home and got on this site and bought one that same day. (The other one is going to do the unthinkable: not follow my advice).

Received this baby last night and had it up and running in no time. My reciever doesn't handle HDMI inputs so I had to run it directly into my 42" Westinghouse LCD (great product by the way). Ran digital optical to my receiver that had Dolby Digital Decoder built in.
I wasn't sure (being new) if getting the DVD to send the audio through the optical cable rather than the HDMI was going to be a big deal but the set up was extremely easy.
The 1080 output was amazing. The Quick setup was perfect to get you going in a hurry and only later did I play with the menu's and read through the whole manual.
What I liked best is that it automatically outputs the highest resolution your TV can handle. If you go into the menu and manually select 1080 and your TV can't handle it, the unit is smart enough to make the change for you.
Couldn't have been any easier and I'm very please. I watched Ice Age 2 and it seemed like every hair on the mammoth could be counted.
Great product, especially for the price.
As far as the blue light. It didn't bother me. I still put in on Auto Dark after reading all the reviews though. Really a non-issue.
