I bought this for the cheap price and good reviews. I'm not dissapointed. It is specifically being used to compliment my outdoor system. (It's not rated for outdoor use, I've got it in a bench I built around it under the porch. I figured for $100, if it doesn't last I haven't lost much). It works very well. I'm trying to omit "for the money" from my review b/c it's a nice sub, regardless of the price.
Good: I compared it to my Polk sub in my home theater system and the little Sony helds it's own. It couldn't hang once the volume got way up there, but you could buy four of these Sony's "for the price" (ugh) of the POLK and not have that problem! Good sound, a little boomy, but the cutoff frequency adjustment helped that a lot. Nice to have a level adjust too.
Bad: At really low volume levels that we would use for "background noise" at a dinner the sub didn't want to turn on. What's wierd is if you turned the volume up a little and got the sub to come on, you could turn it back down and it would stay on. But we're talking really low volumes here. It's not a problem and I'd buy it again if I'd known it before. It's just something that never happened w/ my Polk.
Overall, great puchase, recommended.

yes i give it a 4 out of 5 it sound really good for the price and the only bad things is the back cover can of rattle when you cut it up all the way. But for the price it is a steal, I am happy with it.

This did just what I wanted, providing solid low bass for my stereo in a small room. Hookup was straightforward. I recommend it fully if volume needs aren't too high.

This subwoofer is insanely loud!!! When i turn the volume up it literally shakes my entire 4 bedroom apt! On top of that the frequency response is awesome, really deep lows and tight highs. You can adjust the sound output to your liking via dials on the back of the speaker box, including cutoff freq, and gain. Im very satisfied with my purchase and will probably shop here again, best prices.

All in all a good sounding sub. I placed it BEHIND my entertainment center and it just fills the room with sound. My floorplan is wide open with the kitchen, dining room, and den all one big space along with 25 foot celings. I can get enough bass out of this sub to rattle the windows and make wall art move.
The only complaint I have is about the plastic back. It surrounds the amp and is vented to keep that amp cool. It is also prone to rattling. I used some speaker batting in key areas to dampen things. Just don't cover up the vents or you will be smelling a hot amp in minutes.
This sub is good for music and surround--blending well with my Pioneer 5.1 system. No, this isn't going to perform as well as a Polk, but it isn't going to cost near the money a Polk does either.
