I HATED this receiver. I could not get a video signal in the RCA phono/video in jack. I had signal in the satellite in and the dvd in but not in the "video 1/video in. I'm not a novice to setting up audio/video systems. I've been doing it since Beta and that's going back some. I have NEVER had a peice of gear that I could not figure out untill this. I have not bought my HDTV yet so my monitor doesn't have HDML jacks or component jacks so I could only hook it up thru the RCA phono jacks. I like Sony equipment but I would never buy another Sony audio/video receiver again. I used to have a JVC video receiver which was alot more sophisticated and I had no problem with it. In fact I didn't even need the book that came with it. This receiver isn't nearly as complicated and I had alot of trouble.

We purchased this receiver to replace a Sony STR-DE335 analog 5.1 receiver and to pair with a 57" projection HDTV- model 57F59A, a Panasonic DMR-EZ475V DVD Recorder, and an XBOX 360 using a HT-9900 6-Piece Home Theater Speaker System. My initial impression is that for the money, I've done about as well as I could possibly do to integrate all these components through an economical receiver. When comparing sound output from both units, I'd say that the new Sony sounds slightly better than the old one because of digital processing but it takes a lot higher volume setting out of the new one to power 11 year old speakers which still sound great. The sound improvement is not as great as I anticipated though. Still, it's hard to find fault with the new receiver. My sub woofer is a passive unit so I find the bass underwhelming when powered by this receiver; go with a powered sub if you can. Since this 1080i receiver is matched with a 1080i HDTV, it doesn't bother me that my DVD recorder and XBOX 360 are both 1080p. I probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway. For $150, you'd be hard pressed to find a better receiver. Go ahead and get one.

If I didn't spend most of the cash on my HDTV,I would have waited to get a next level up on receivers? But that's not saying that this Sony STR-DG510 wasn't good enough.By no means is this receiver a bad choice,It has past my expectation. There are issues to deal with, but if you know anything about setting up a receiver you should have no problems. My situation forced me to use my 250watts speakers from my last Sony system, and with it I gained a full range of setups to what A/V unit I'm using. So for the time being I find this receiver good for the price, plus the extras that came with it help out to my advantage.I can't understand how anyone cannot be able to control this unit?Weather layman or novice.I give this a five stars, and once again I must say if your just starting out, this is a good unit to work with and learn for the next higher levels of receivers.

Complete diappointment sums it up. Every time I want to adjust bass or treble, I needto open the manual, stand within reading distance, open the amp menu, find the right sub menu without pushing the wrong button, unless I want to start over. Also the funtion are selected by a turn knob, which turns so easy,I often go past the fuction I wanted. To sum it up, this reciever needs about ten more buttons and knobs on it to reduce the pain in the butt it is to operate.
