This unit was purchased tr replace a 24 year old unit. The Sony TC-475 performed well. It has upgraded features that older tape decks did not have. You can record one or both sides of a tape. Playback 1 or 2 tapes, up to 3 hours of listening before you have to get out ouf your chair. Another good feature is the automatic volume controle when recording from another source. I would recommend this unit to anyone. Since tape deks are almost a thing of the past - - SONY has done a great job keeping an old era alive with this unit.

This unit has very good (not great) sound reproduction, and has a decent amount of cassette features. For the price, it is a fine player/recorder. [Crutchfield made it very easy to return for full refund my previous recent purchase of an Onkyo audio cassette deck TA-RW255 with which I was totally dissatisfied; see my 4-28-08 review of that product.] It is fortunate Crutchfield sells this unit, as finding audio cassette decks available for sale is becoming very difficult.

We needed a dual tapedeck for live taping in a school setting. It needed to be easy to use and able to run automatically for a long period of time. This one is perfect - everyone setting it up and using it has been very happy with it's performance.

....for my (over) 16 year old SONY TC-WR565, it has served me well. This new one has added Memory, ALC (can switch off), fader, auto-calibrate. I love the peak level hold meters, & playback sound is excellent. I will miss the balance knob, but...no biggie. Soon, cassette recording decks might not be available, they're becoming obsolete. So much for the digital age (CD, DVD, etc.), although I record on both. Enjoy it while you can.

Nice unit, in this declining product market.BUT...has a lot of badly labeled buttons. No microphone input.....Ah! and no "record" button, but a "pause" button that is a disquise. It also uses a badly design sound level control that you won't know if it is working in auto mode. Good instructions and very nice clear sound.
